Homework

Here's everything you need to know about second grade homework in room 19:
  • Homework will be assigned on Monday and sent home in your child's homework folder. The folder and all assignments are due every Friday unless noted otherwise.
  • Homework will typically include nightly reading for 20 minutes and a weekly math problem solving page.
  • Most weeks, I will also send home a list of words that follow our weekly spelling pattern. This is for your information as there is no formal spelling homework. The plastic sleeve inside your child’s homework folder will provide suggestions for practicing spelling patterns and words. This practice is optional and will not be collected.
  • Occasionally there will be special projects for homework.
  • Several times this year, there will be a speech assignment for homework. The plastic sleeve inside the homework folder will provide tips for public speaking.
  • Your child should be able to complete his or her homework independently within a reasonable amount of time. Please let me know right away if homework is taking too long or is becoming a frustrating experience. You may need to support your second grader by reminding him/her to complete the homework, checking for thoroughness, and helping him/her remember to return it to school.
  • The single most important part of your child’s homework is the nightly reading for 20 minutes. Please, please read every night: I cannot stress enough the importance of this piece of homework.
