Birthdays
Birthdays are so much fun, and I'm looking forward to helping your child celebrate his/her birthday at school! When your child's birthday is near, we will schedule a date if you wish to send in a fruit-only treat to share with the class. For those children with summer birthdays, we will celebrate on their half-birthdays. Due to food allergies, the California state nutritional guidelines and school policy, birthday treats are limited to fruit only. Ideas for fruit treats include: a bag of apples or tangerines, fruit kabobs, ready-to-serve fruit salad, or fruit popsicles to name just a few. Please do not send in baked goods or sweets as I will not be able to hand them out to the students. If you do choose to send in fruit, it should be ready to serve to 21 students. Alternatively you might consider donating a book in your child's name to our classroom library. And one last note about birthdays -- please do not distribute birthday invitations at school unless everyone in the class is invited. This helps eliminate tears and hurt feelings.

Nut-Aware
Edna Maguire is a nut-aware school. Please keep this in mind when planning and preparing any food that will be sent to school. Wondering what this means? You can read all about it here.

Absences and Tardies
School starts promptly at 8:40am, and classroom doors open at 8:35am. We start our day with schoolwide morning announcements and a classroom morning meeting. These are important parts of our school day, so please do your best to be on time everyday. Attendance is taken during morning announcements at 8:40am.

Please report absences to the front office as promptly as possible. Thank you for keeping your children at home when they are ill. Not sure whether your kiddo is too sick for school? Check out this link from our school district's nurse.

Please let me know about any extended absences as soon as possible. You can find the district's guidelines for extended absences here.
